New surgical oncology services launched at Brandon Hospital

New surgical oncology program brings latest advancements in finding and removing tumors to east Hillsborough County.

According to the American Cancer Society, 1.9 million people were diagnosed with a new case of cancer in the United States in 2022. More than 609 thousand Americans died because of cancer that same year. That’s why access to high-quality and comprehensive cancer care has become so important to the growing east Hillsborough community.

In 2023, HCA Florida Brandon Hospital launched a team of oncology specialists allowing for cancer treatments like chemotherapy close to home for those in Brandon and the surrounding community. Now, in the summer of 2024, Brandon Hospital introduces a multidisciplinary team bringing surgical oncology to the hospital.

Types of cancers treated surgically:

  • Colorectal cancer
  • Gastric cancer
  • Gastrointestinal cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Liver cancer
  • Sarcoma
  • Skin cancer
  • Thoracic cancer
  • Thyroid cancer

The Brandon Hospital surgical oncology team joins the integrated HCA Florida Healthcare team of hospitals across Florida. The oncology specialists include hematologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, surgeons and surgical oncologist, as well as specially trained oncology nurses.
