Maelani and Ma'kai Major
When Adrianna Major sensed something was wrong at 24 weeks pregnant, she came to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital and delivered her twins who were cared for in the hospital's Level III neonatal Intensive care unit (NICU).
Adrianna and Christopher Major are a young couple who received the unexpected but joyful news that they would be parents of twins. As Christopher puts it, they were ready for “double the trouble” with a smile and a laugh.
At 24 weeks, Adrianna sensed something was wrong and they went to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital where they learned that her amniotic sac had ruptured. She was rushed to the operating room.
Adrianna and Christopher feared the worst and it was a very scary time for their family.
Gabby Hansen, a registered nurse in Brandon Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cared for the twins in the NICU. She shares how “touch and go” it was when they were born at such low birth weights, under 2 pounds.
Fraternal twins Maelani and Ma’kai needed respiratory support to help their developing lungs. Peggy Nickens, a registered nurse at Brandon Hospital’s NICU, shared how she witnesses miracles in the NICU with the lifesaving care of premature babies.
When Adrianna was allowed to have skin-to-skin contact with her babies, “You could just tell the love she has for her babies,” said Hansen. Now, Maelani is home and with their family almost complete, they are eagerly awaiting her brother’s homecoming.
