High-risk pregnancy
A high-risk pregnancy indicates that there is a higher likelihood of a disease or condition that may put you or your baby at risk. This may be because of an existing health condition, a multiple pregnancy or even your age.
High-risk pregnancy and maternal-fetal medicine in Brandon, Florida
HCA Florida Brandon Hospital offers comprehensive care for high-risk pregnancies in the Tampa Bay Area.
A pregnancy may be considered high-risk for a variety of reasons, including existing health conditions, maternal age, lifestyle, multiple pregnancies and health issues happening before or during pregnancy. If these types of complications occur, our multidisciplinary team has the training and experience necessary to provide highly specialized, individualized care. Our team includes maternal-fetal medicine specialists, obstetricians, neonatologists, perinatal nurse navigators and other high–risk pregnancy specialists.
We work closely with you to decide how to best manage your care during pregnancy, delivery, and after birth.
As a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), our facility is specifically designed to care for babies born as early as 22+ weeks gestation. Additionally, we offer our high-risk patients genetic screening, diagnostic testing, and specialized fetal care as needed.

Perinatal palliative care and bereavement
We understand how difficult it can be for families to hear their baby may not survive before or shortly after birth. That's why our perinatal palliative care team helps prepare families for the loss of a child. A palliative care birth plan is shared with the medical and nursing staff to support the family's wishes.
Supportive services for families during these difficult times include:
- Considering memory-making options
- Exploring medical decisions
- Helping patients create a birth plan consistent with their wants and needs
- Providing a safe environment to talk
- Supporting the family's coping strategies
