St. Petersburg, Fla.  — HCA Florida St Petersburg Hospital announced that construction will begin on June 3 for two new computed tomography (CT) scanners and a new digital X-ray system. The project is anticipated to be completed in early 2025 at a projected cost of $2.3 million.

“We are excited not just to upgrade the CT scanner in our current radiology room, but to add a new one, as well as a new X-ray system in our emergency room,” said CEO of HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital and HCA Florida Pasadena Hospital Brent Burish. “These upgrades will support our hospital colleagues in providing our patients outstanding care with the latest imaging technology and efficiencies.”

“Our goal is to upgrade and expand our imaging services with minimal disruptions to our daily hospital operations,” said Chief Operating Officer George Makhoul. “This is why our first step in the process is to build a new radiology room.”

This project is designed to provide a better patient and colleague experience and will improve ER efficiencies as well as radiology turnaround time. Having two CT scanners at St. Petersburg Hospital will also allow for the expansion of the hospital’s interventional radiology program and outpatient CT scanning services.
