Advanced orthopedic treatment options
We are proud to offer leading-edge surgical treatment options for patients experiencing joint pain and other orthopedic conditions. Some procedures we commonly perform include:
Hip replacement surgery
Hip replacement surgery involves placing a metal or plastic covering over the bone ends where cartilage has worn away. This special covering acts as renewed cartilage and helps relieve pain from movement and physical activity.
We provide the following hip replacement procedures:
- Anterior hip replacement — This procedure is less invasive and requires a smaller incision, which allows surgeons to work in between muscles and tissue without disturbance.
- Total hip replacement — This procedure involves replacing the joint's cartilage and bone with implants.
Knee replacement surgery
In early stages, knee conditions can often be treated with medicines, injections and other nonsurgical treatments. However, when those treatment methods are no longer effective, your joint specialist may recommend a knee replacement procedure.
Partial knee resurfacing (PKR)
PKR is an outpatient procedure designed to treat arthritis in the knee. Your doctor may recommend PKR if you have arthritis in only one compartment of the knee. Instead of replacing the entire knee, PKR replaces only the side of the knee damaged by arthritis.
After the procedure, you may even be able to walk the same day. Potential benefits of PKR include:
- Faster recovery
- Less postoperative pain
- No suture removal
Total knee resurfacing
When the cartilage is damaged in more than one component of the knee, the entire knee joint can be resurfaced with metal and plastic. This prevents bone from rubbing on bone and, as a result, helps restore joint function. After total knee resurfacing, you can generally expect to return to normal activities within eight to 12 weeks.
Meniscal transplant surgery
The meniscal transplant surgery is an outpatient, minimally invasive procedure that helps repair damaged or torn knee cartilage. During the procedure, our surgeons implant a new meniscus, or a cartilage ring found in the knee.
The meniscus transplantation is only performed when a tear is so severe that all, or nearly all, of the meniscus cartilage has to be removed. If you are a good candidate for the procedure, we will perform diagnostic imaging tests and use the results to find a meniscus that will fit your knee.
Features of our orthopedic program
We are committed to providing you with a high level of care in an environment that puts your healing and recovery first.
Florida Orthopedic Pavilion
If you are undergoing orthopedic surgery, we offer hotel-like amenities at our Florida Orthopedic Pavilion.
Once you are checked in, you and your family will be given a private room to keep your belongings and prepare for your surgery. While you are undergoing surgery, your family can dine, play games, watch shows and movies or grab a cappuccino.
After surgery, you and your family can go back to your room for recovery and discharge.
Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR)
We participate in Medicare’s Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) program, which promotes high-quality, cost-efficient and better coordination of care for those undergoing hip and knee replacement surgery. We work closely with its physicians and post-acute care providers to improve quality and coordinate care from the initial hospitalization through recovery. The CJR program permits facilities to enter into financial gainsharing relationships with its collaborators to share in the success of the program.
Orthopedic rehabilitation
The physical therapy and rehabilitation program at our hospital is designed to help you regain mobility and skills following an injury or surgery. It can also be used to help treat a condition. Our licensed physical therapists and rehabilitation specialists focus on teaching you how to adapt and compensate for abilities that may have permanently changed. We will take time to assess your needs and create a personalized physical rehabilitation plan for you.
