Childbirth classes
We believe you feel more empowered in your pregnancy journey when you feel like you know what to expect. For this reason, we provide childbirth classes to help you prepare for labor, birth, recovery and newborn care.
Dedicated obstetrics ER
Our hospital offers the St. Lucie and Martin County communities a designated obstetrics ER for individuals requiring emergency obstetric and preterm care at any time. The obstetrics ER is staffed by an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB/GYN) and is supported by anesthesiology and neonatology providers on the premises. The team is immediately available to address your clinical needs.
Planned and unplanned cesarean section (C-section)
If you have a scheduled C-section, or if a C-section becomes necessary as labor progresses, our dedicated operating room is located within the unit, allowing us to quickly tailor care to the needs of you and your baby during delivery.
We perform "gentle C-sections," meaning we use a clear drape so moms can feel like they are a part of the delivery experience, even when it needs to be a C-section. We also allow new mothers to practice skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth in the operating room.
Neonatal intensive care
In the case of a high-risk pregnancy or if your newborn requires a higher level of care, our hospital has a strong partnership with the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, our sister hospital. Here, the neonatal intensive care team specializes in full-service care for newborns.
This hospital is only a short drive up the coast, and you can expect the same high level of family-centered care as you would at our hospital.
Postpartum care
After your baby is born, we provide family-centered postpartum care and support to help you begin bonding with your newborn and recovering from birth. Our team is here to support you however we can, including helping you learn to breastfeed, if you wish.
Childbirth services team
We offer a multispecialty childbirth care team to ensure you and your baby receive the care and support you need. Our staff includes:
- Anesthesiologists skilled in labor and delivery pain management
- Board-certified obstetrician-gynecologists (OB/GYNs) and neonatologists
- Certified neonatal nurses
- Childbirth educators
- Labor nurses certified in fetal monitoring by the Association of Women's Health Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN)
- Lactation consultants
Important information for expectant parents
We believe confidence is key to feeling comfortable in your parenting journey, so we offer knowledge for you about risks to your child and hospital hours.
Reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
Some tips to remember after you give birth to your little one include:
- Always place your baby on their back to sleep, for naps and at night.
- Do not allow smoking around your baby.
- Keep soft objects, toys and loose bedding out of your baby's area.
- Keep your baby's sleep area close to, but separate from, where you and others sleep.
- Place your baby on a firm sleep surface, such as on a safety Dash-approved crib mattress, covered by a fitted sheet.
- Think about using a clean, dry pacifier when placing your infant down to sleep.

Postpartum visiting hours
During this time, family and friends are welcome to visit you and your newborn. We support open visitation hours; however, we ask you to remember that proper rest for you and your baby are essential.
