Our cancer care services

Our oncology program provides a wide range of services for all stages of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.

Surgical care and chemotherapy

The two major treatment options we provide are surgery and chemotherapy, including infusion therapy. We do not perform outpatient radiation therapy at our hospital, but we are able to refer you to outpatient services.

Cancer registry program

Our hospital participates in a statewide program to improve the early detection of cancer and quality of cancer care. We maintain a cancer registry that tracks the causes, diagnosis and treatments provided to patients at our hospital who are affected by cancer and certain blood disorders.

Information from our registry is sent to the Florida Cancer Data System, which combines data gathered from all patients with cancer in the state. The goal is to study all cases of cancer as a whole to improve cancer care overall.

How information is gathered

The cancer registry staff initially gathers information from the medical records of patients with a cancer diagnosis who are seen by a physician or admitted to our hospital. Throughout a patient's lifetime, our staff will collect information from the following sources:

  • Direct contact with the patient or patient's family, if their physician is unknown
  • Follow-up with a patient's physician
  • Hospital medical records

Patient confidentiality

All patient information collected for the cancer registry is kept confidential, in accordance with Florida State Statutes and established hospital policies. The information gathered is only used to aid in research to improve the detection and treatment of cancer now and in the future.

Our cancer registry is regularly updated with follow-up information on patient health statuses, treating physicians and date of most recent physical examinations. In an effort to gather data for all types of cancer, patients are tracked throughout their lifetimes.

Our cancer registry is considered a public entity, which means our hospital may continue to report patient information confidentially without violating the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Dedicated resources and support

Our goal is to support you and your loved ones from diagnosis to survivorship. You will have access to a number of resources and services when receiving cancer care at our hospital, including cancer education, diagnostic imaging, dedicated support groups, hospice care and religious support, pain management options, nutritional help and social services.

Accredited cancer care and treatment

We are proud to be recognized as a Community Hospital Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer (CoC).

Our accreditation recognizes our commitment to providing you with the superior care in cancer diagnosis and treatment. We also undergo a rigorous evaluation and performance review every three years to maintain this accreditation.

When you receive care at a CoC-accredited facility, you have access to:

  • Comprehensive oncology services, including the use of advanced treatment therapies and equipment
  • A multidisciplinary team approach
  • Access to information about cancer, clinical trials, additional education and support resources
  • Lifelong follow-up care through a cancer registry
  • Continuous monitoring and improvement of care
