HCA Florida Blake Hospital expands cardiovascular services with new electrophysiology lab
HCA Florida Blake Hospital is proud to announce the opening of a new electrophysiology (EP) lab, a major expansion of its cardiovascular program. The 2,537 square foot suite is designed to diagnose and treat abnormal heart rhythms using advanced technology, including 3D heart mapping and real-time electrical activity monitoring.
“In 2024 alone, our team completed over 900 electrophysiology procedures, and this new lab allows us to expand our capacity and continue delivering exceptional care to our community,” said Steve Young, CEO of HCA Florida Blake Hospital. “This investment reflects our commitment to advancing heart care and improving outcomes for patients across the region.”
The EP lab will support a wide range of procedures, including ablations for atrial fibrillation, pacemaker and defibrillator implants, and left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) implant placements. In May 2025, Blake celebrated its 500th LAA implant, a milestone made possible by the expertise of Dr. Rajesh Malik, Dr. Michael Tedla, Dr. Christian Zellner, Dr. Ashok Krishnamurthy, and Dr. Joseph Pace. The lab includes a control room, along with a pre and post-procedure area, enhancing patient care and comfort throughout the treatment journey.
“This lab is the result of incredible teamwork,” said Dr. Malik, who is an electrophysiologist. “From our physicians and nurses to our administrators and support staff, everyone came together with a shared vision to bring this to life. It’s a proud moment for all of us and a win for our patients.”
