Englewood Hospital celebrates 40 years of service and honored award winners

HCA Florida Englewood Hospital is celebrating its 40th anniversary by honoring exceptional employees, physicians, and volunteers with the 2025 HCA Healthcare Awards of Distinction.

HCA Florida Englewood Hospital is marking its 40th anniversary by recognizing outstanding employees, physicians and volunteers through the hospital-level 2025 HCA Healthcare Awards of Distinction.

The awards honor individuals who exemplify the hospital’s mission through exceptional service, compassion and commitment to excellence.

2025 Award Recipients:

  • Dr. Shea Jones, General Surgeon – Frist Humanitarian Award (Physician)
    Dr. Jones was recognized for his empathy and dedication, throughout his tenure here, having performed hundreds of elective surgeries and  emergency procedures for our patients.
  • Molly Bakulski, RN, Medical Surgical Unit – Excellence in Nursing Award (Compassionate Care)
    Bakulski was honored for her clinical skill, compassion and integrity in delivering high-quality nursing care.
  • Cortney Albert, Patient Care Technician – Clinical Colleague of the Year
    Albert was celebrated for her steadfast support of frontline nurses and her compassionate approach to patient care.
  • Emily Silfven, Supervisor, Food and Nutrition Services – Non-Clinical Colleague of the Year
    Silfven has served more than 125,000 meals over six years and is known for creating meaningful moments for patients with dignity and kindness.
  • Terry Shippy, Volunteer – Frist Humanitarian Award (Volunteer)
    Shippy has contributed more than 600 hours of service as a chaplain and greeter, offering spiritual support and a warm welcome to patients and families.

The hospital also recognized 45 team members for milestone service anniversaries, including Carolyn Exelby, its first employee. Now the supply chain supervisor, Exelby helped open both the hospital in 1985 and the new HCA Florida Wellen Park℠ Emergency location in 2025.

Englewood Hospital leaders also celebrated milestone anniversaries, including chief executive officer Kelly Lindsay with 29 years, Vice President of Operations Shannon Piatkowski with 30 years and chief nursing officer Andrea Truex with 33 years at HCA Healthcare.

“As we celebrate 40 years of caring for our community, these award winners remind us why we do what we do,” said Kelly Lindsay, CEO of HCA Florida Englewood Hospital. “Their compassion, integrity and relentless commitment to excellence are the heartbeat of our hospital.”

Carolyn Exelby, the hospital's first employee celebrated forty years of service.  Now the supply chain supervisor, Exelby helped open both the hospital in 1985 and the new HCA Florida Wellen Park℠ Emergency location in 2025.
