Imaging services
Imaging exams allow radiologists (imaging specialists) and physicians to view structures and activity within the body. This is vital for diagnosis but also for treatment, to ensure your care plan is working as it should.

Advanced imaging technology
Our diagnostic imaging tests and procedures include:
- A computerized tomography (CT) scan allows radiologists to see inside your body using a combination of X-rays and computers to get pictures of your organs, bones and other tissues. CT scans are often used to detect conditions such as joint and bone injuries, internal bleeding, cancer, heart disease, emphysema, tumors, blood clots, excess fluid and infections.
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) allows radiologists to use radio waves, magnets and computers to take detailed pictures of the inside of your body and determine how well you've responded to treatment. Unlike CT scans, radiation is not used to capture MRI images.
- Ultrasound imaging (sonography) allows radiologists to use sound waves to capture images inside of your body. It is commonly used to help diagnose infections, swelling or heart conditions, guide biopsies and examine babies in utero (in the womb). Ultrasounds are noninvasive and do not use radiation.
- Image-guided biopsies are an integral part of identifying if cells are cancerous as well as the progression or stage of cancer. Our experienced staff uses a combination of minimally invasive techniques, MRI, CT scans and ultrasounds to secure tissue for evaluation.
Breast imaging
Early detection is key to breast health. HCA Florida Highlands helps you with early detection by offering high-tech digital mammography to evaluate breast tissue for cancer and other abnormalities.
Heart imaging
Using noninvasive diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, MRIs and CT scans, our team of experts perform a variety of medical exams. We use this as part of our cardiovascular program to detect the presence of heart disease and cardiac disorders.
Bone density screening
We use dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) to determine the most effective orthopedic treatment option for many conditions. It can also be used to examine bone density, assessing bone strength and bone fractures to identify your risk of developing osteoporosis.
