The pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) utilizes specialized treatment and equipment when your child is critically ill. Physicians and nurses in the PICU are specially trained in pediatrics, so they are able to provide your child with high-quality care.

Conditions treated in the PICU

Our PICU is equipped to treat children who are in need of the highest level of care. Conditions commonly treated in the PICU include:

  • Kidney or liver failure
  • Severe breathing problems from asthma

PICU treatments and services

Our PICU has advanced equipment and compassionate staff committed to helping children get better. Services commonly provided in the PICU include:

  • 24/7 monitoring with machines that can measure your child's blood pressure, blood oxygen level and heart rate
  • Feeding tube support
  • Intravenous (IV) therapy for fluids or medication
  • Lab or imaging tests to provide more information about your child's medical condition
  • Medication administration
  • Ventilator support when your child needs extra help breathing

We also work with our pediatric emergency department to provide a seamless transition to the PICU if needed.
