Mammograms

A mammogram uses X-rays to screen for a lump in the breast before it is large enough to be felt by touch. Mammograms are an effective breast cancer screening tool. However, women with dense breast tissue or a high risk of developing breast cancer may benefit from supplemental screenings.

Talk to your doctor about your individual risk for breast cancer and the type of screening that is right for you.

Breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography)

Breast tomosynthesis (sometimes called "tomo"), is a revolutionary breast cancer detection technology. It produces a 3D image of the breast tissues. (Traditional mammography obtains a single image.)

3D mammogram advantages

Because of the clearer, more detailed images, 3D mammograms offer the following advantages:

  • Faster and more accurate results
  • Fewer false positives and retests
  • Potential for earlier cancer detection and treatment

Tomo also has the potential to significantly increase the cancer detection rate in women with dense breasts. This is because the multiple images give doctors a clearer view of breast masses, which can make it easier to detect breast cancer.

What to expect at your breast imaging appointment

Here, in our calming, private atmosphere, your screening will only take approximately 30 minutes.

Your exam will be performed by a licensed mammography technologist and read by one of our board-certified radiologists.

Our hospital's breast center is recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. This recognition means we exceed regulatory standards and have achieved accreditation in all of our breast imaging modalities. For you, this means you can expect high-quality, personalized care throughout each and every appointment with us.
