Wound care
Wound care involves medical interventions to heal a wound after injury. Specialized treatment is provided for wounds that are nonhealing or refuse to heal on their own. A vital aspect of treatment includes learning how to properly dress and care for a wound.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a specialized treatment, which allows patients to breathe pure oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. High concentrations of oxygen are delivered to the bloodstream, ranging from 10 to 20 times the normal amount. This pure oxygen improves oxygen levels in the bloodstream, which promotes healing at the wound site.
Benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy provides a variety of benefits, including:
- Enables more infection-fighting white blood cells to reach affected areas
- Helps blood carry more oxygen throughout the body
- Promotes wound healing in tissue
- Revitalizes tissues that receive poor blood flow
- Stimulates the growth of new blood vessels
What to expect during your hyperbaric chamber session
Hyperbaric therapy is a painless treatment. Most patients watch TV or sleep during treatments. You can expect the following during your hyperbaric session:
- A hyperbaric technician will monitor your treatment at all times, and a physician will always be nearby.
- Once you are comfortably positioned inside the chamber, the technician will slowly increase the air pressure. As the pressure increases initially and decreases at the end of the treatment, you may notice the same sensation you sometimes feel when changing altitude in an airplane.
- Your technician will help you equalize the pressure between your ears, if necessary.
