Our center is located on Florida State University's campus, but we provide care for all college students, including students enrolled in online universities.

ECT treatments

Historically referred to as "shock therapy," the type of ECT we use is a modern medical treatment. It is both highly effective and safe as a treatment for certain mental illnesses, such as severe depression, schizoaffective disorder, catatonia, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Others whose illness has made them suicidal may get relief from ECT.

During ECT, you receive brief electrical stimulation to your scalp. This causes nerve-cell activity that releases chemicals in the brain and helps restore functioning.

Talk to your physician about ECT if you think it may benefit you or contact our ECT Coordinator, at (850) 325-5762 for more information.
