HCA Florida Citrus Hospital recently partnered with the Citrus County Education Foundation and Citrus County School District to provide an exclusive educational experience for local high school students interested in healthcare careers. Students from Crystal River High School, Lecanto High School, Citrus High School and the Academy of Environmental Science visited the hospital on a Saturday for a hands-on, behind-the-scenes tour of key departments, offering them valuable insights into the medical field.

Throughout the visit, students explored specialized hospital areas, including the Heart and Vascular Center, operating room, pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, and rehabilitation. They had the rare opportunity to interact with state-of-the-art medical technology, including using a surgical robot. Additionally, students engaged with emergency medical professionals from Citrus County Fire Rescue to learn about emergency medical services and got an up-close look at flight medicine on the hospital’s helipad with the Bayflite air medical transport team.

“HCA Florida Citrus Hospital is committed to inspiring and educating the next generation of healthcare professionals,” said hospital CEO Lisa Nummi. “By opening our doors and allowing students to experience healthcare firsthand, we hope to spark a passion for medicine and provide valuable guidance for their future careers.”

This collaborative initiative reflects HCA Florida Citrus Hospital’s ongoing dedication to community engagement and workforce development, ensuring that young minds have the opportunity to explore fulfilling and impactful careers in healthcare.
