Wound care

Wound care involves medical interventions to heal a wound after injury. Specialized treatment is provided for wounds that are nonhealing or refuse to heal on their own. A vital aspect of treatment includes learning how to properly dress and care for a wound.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)

HBOT is a treatment that increases the oxygen in your bloodstream. The increased oxygen stimulates healing and the growth of healthy tissues.

We use HBOT to treat a variety of wounds, as well as some types of infection.

Types of conditions treated with HBOT

If you have a wound that is exceptionally difficult to heal, your wound care specialist may decide to treat it with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. These types of wounds include:

  • Chronic bone infections (osteomyelitis)
  • Compromised skin grafts and flaps
  • Crush injuries
  • Diabetic foot wounds
  • Radiation damage to soft tissue and bone, bowel, bladder and/or prostate
What to expect during HBOT

During an HBOT session, you rest comfortably in a sealed, pressurized hyperbaric chamber environment where you will inhale pure oxygen. This helps push oxygen into your blood plasma.

Our Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center has three single-person hyperbaric chambers. The chambers are transparent, and you can communicate with a member of our staff at any time during your session.

Session duration varies by patient. However, sessions typically last for two hours, with the treatment period ranging from five days to six weeks.
