X-rays use small doses of radiation to create pictures of internal bodily organs and structures. Our physicians may use X-rays to:

• Determine bone fractures and joint injuries
• Diagnose heart and blood vessel obstructions
• Find tumors
• Identify an infection
• Locate the cause of an intestinal obstruction
• View possible fluid in the lungs

Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique which shows continuous X-ray images, similar to a video, on a monitor. As an X-ray beam is passed through the body, the continuous detailed images show movement of a contrast dye, body part or an instrument. A physician is then able to observe any possible health conditions which will need diagnosis and further treatment.

Bone density screening, also called dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), is an enhanced X-ray technique used to measure bone density and loss. A DEXA scan is a quick, noninvasive diagnostic imaging procedure which requires no anesthesia.

DEXA screenings use an extremely small dose of radiation. In fact, it is less than an average day's exposure to natural radiation and less than a tenth of the radiation dose in traditional X-rays. These screenings are helpful in orthopedic care, such as assessing your risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures.

Our 64-slice CT scanner provides complete cross-sectional views ("slices") of the body and its internal organs using X-ray technology.

Physicians use these 3D images to detect broken bones, blood clots, cancer, signs of heart disease and internal bleeding. Additionally, a CT scan can be used to help guide biopsy procedures.

Mammograms, which use low-dose X-ray imaging, are used to examine the breasts. We offer digital screening and diagnostic mammograms as well as 3D mammography. They allow our physicians to diagnose and treat breast tumors and other breast anomalies. Our breast health doctors also use mammography to detect early signs of breast cancer.

MRIs are noninvasive imaging tools which use a magnetic field, instead of X-rays or radiation, to produce high-quality images in multiple planes.

Physicians commonly use MRIs to examine the brain, head, abdomen, pelvis, spine, bone and joints. This aids in the diagnosis of a range of disorders and injuries. MRIs are also used to determine how effectively prescribed treatments and medications are working.

Nuclear medicine uses small doses of radioactive substances to pinpoint molecular activity within the body. In real time, physicians can view the functioning of the body and evaluate chemical and biological processes. This allows for the early detection of diseases, often before the structural changes can be seen on a CT scan or MRI.

This noninvasive, painless imaging method is commonly used to diagnose and treat certain cancers and heart disease and bone, neurological, gastrointestinal and other disorders.

Ultrasounds, which are noninvasive and painless, use high-frequency sound waves to create video images of internal organs of the body.

Ultrasounds can be used to view and monitor an unborn baby's activity during pregnancy. These imaging tests are also used to diagnose an array of health conditions, including abnormal growths, heart disorders and blood clots.

An EKG uses sound waves to measure the electrical activity of the heart. This test is used as part of our overall cardiology program and allows us to check your heartbeat patterns and possible abnormal heart rhythms.
