Joint replacement surgery

Over 95 percent of our patients are up and walking within hours of their joint replacement procedures. Our complication rate and patient recovery time in the hospital beat the national averages.

We offer the following types of joint replacement:

  • Ankle
  • Elbow
  • Hip (anterior and posterior approach)
  • Knee
  • Shoulder, including reverse shoulder replacement
Minimally invasive hip replacement

Our orthopedic surgeons were the first in Charlotte County to use the anterior approach to hip replacement. They now perform more than 200 anterior total hip replacements at our hospital each year.

This approach allows our orthopedic surgeons to reach the hip joint from the front of the hip as opposed to the lateral (side) or the posterior (back) approach. With anterior total hip replacement, the hip can be replaced without detaching the muscle from the pelvis or femur during surgery. Because of this, there is less pain and a lower risk of complications (such as dislocation) after surgery.

Unlike traditional hip replacement surgery, immediately after an anterior total hip replacement, you will be able to bend your hip freely and bear full weight when comfortable.

Robotic spine surgery

Our hospital was the first in the region to add robot-assisted surgery to our spine surgery options. While conventional techniques for spine surgery can be effective, they do have limitations. Our new robotic technology makes performing spine surgery safer, faster and more effective.

Orthopedic pain management

After your surgery, our doctors and nurses will discuss the best method of pain control for you. Our goal is to help you be as comfortable as possible by keeping your pain at a level where you are able to perform your normal daily activities.

Orthopedic rehabilitation

Following treatment, we want to ensure you heal properly and regain your strength. To do this, our licensed physical and occupational therapists create a personalized physical therapy plan for you.

We will work with you in a private setting at your own pace to help you return to your daily activities as quickly and safely as possible.

Preoperative education

We offer a weekly preoperative education class designed specifically for patients requiring orthopedic or spine surgery. Our classes provide you with an opportunity to learn valuable information about your upcoming procedure and postoperative recovery path.

During this class, you will get to meet the orthopedic care team who will care for you during your stay. Our preoperative nurses will be there to gather your health information, answer questions and make sure all of your necessary preoperative testing is completed. They will also share how you can best prepare for your procedure.
