Wound care

Wound care involves medical interventions to heal a wound after injury. Specialized treatment is provided for wounds that are nonhealing or refuse to heal on their own. A vital aspect of treatment includes learning how to properly dress and care for a wound.

Our patients are cared for by a skilled team of physicians and certified wound care specialists, including podiatric, vascular, general and plastic surgeons. These specialists are committed to the management of chronic, non-healing wounds in an outpatient setting.

We offer a variety of wound treatments and services, including:

  • Antimicrobial therapy
  • Biosynthetic skin grafts
  • Compression therapy
  • Growth-factor therapy
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
  • Moist wound healing

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy is a medical treatment which enhances the body’s natural healing process by inhaling 100 percent oxygen. HBO therapy is administered in a private setting. It takes place in a monoplace (single) hyperbaric chamber.

An increase in oxygen to the blood helps fight infections and promote tissue healing. It is a simple, noninvasive and painless treatment. Specially trained technicians and certified physicians provide our HBO therapy treatments.

Lymphedema treatment

Lymphedema can occur in the arms and legs. It is a condition of localized fluid retention and tissue swelling produced by the body’s lymphatic system to fight infection.

If the lymph vessels that carry the fluid are missing, impaired, damaged or removed, an abnormal amount of fluid can collect in the tissues of the affected area. This can cause the tissue to swell and become abnormally large.

The most effective treatment for lymphedema is complete decongestive physiotherapy. This is a noninvasive, painless technique consisting of manual lymph drainage, exercise, compressive therapy and skin care.

Ostomy management

Our ostomy-certified specialist helps patients with ostomy management. Our preoperative counseling services include:

  • Stoma site marking
  • Patient and caregiver education regarding the process and postoperative care
  • Opportunity to answer any questions the patient and caregiver may have

Our postoperative care includes:

  • Assessment of the stoma and healing
  • Assessment of bowel and renal function
  • Selection of the most effective pouching system for the patient
