Women's health center in Tamarac, Florida

At HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital's Women's Center in Broward County, we are dedicated to providing excellent women's health care.

Our women's health team provides screening services and specialty care, from bone density testing and mammography to gynecology and surgery. Working together, our goal is to help you maintain your health through every stage of life.

Our specialty services for women

Our women's health specialists personalize their care to your unique needs, and we offer a variety of services, including:

Bone density testing

Low bone density can increase your risk of bone fractures and developing osteoporosis. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, about 50 percent of women 50 years old and older will break a bone due to the disease.

With bone density testing, we can evaluate your bone density and assess your risk for fractures. This allows us to proactively create a care plan to maintain your bone health and prevent fractures.

Risk factors for osteoporosis

Certain people are more likely to develop osteoporosis than others. Risk factors that increase your likelihood of developing osteoporosis include:

  • Being a woman 50 years old and older
  • Drinking excess alcohol
  • Family history of osteoporosis and/or broken bones
  • Having certain diseases and conditions, such as anorexia nervosa, rheumatoid arthritis or gastrointestinal diseases
  • History of broken bones
  • Inactive lifestyle
  • Low hormone levels
  • Poor diet
  • Small frame and/or thin build
  • Smoking
  • Taking certain medications

Breast health services

Breast health is an essential component to every woman's health care, which is why we offer comprehensive breast diagnostics and imaging.

Some of our breast health services include:

  • Biopsy, including stereotactic breast biopsy
  • Breast reconstruction
  • Breast surgery
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Cyst aspiration
  • Evaluation of excised breast specimens
  • Galactography
  • Mammography

For more information about our breast health services, call our Women’s Center at (954) 721-2200.

Mammograms

Our mammogram screenings are convenient to Florida's Coral Springs, Margate, Parkland, Sunrise, Tamarac and surrounding areas.

During a mammogram, your breast will be compressed while X-ray images are taken. These high-quality images allow radiologists to pinpoint early signs of breast cancer before a tumor may be felt in the breast.

If you would like to schedule a mammogram appointment, please call (877) 331-7030 or register online.

Breast symptoms that may require an evaluation

We also encourage our patients to look for symptoms of a potential breast issue at home. The following are signs you may need to see a doctor about your breast health:

  • A lump under your arm or on your breast
  • Discharge from the breasts (other than breast milk)
  • Inwardly turned nipple
  • Pain in the breasts
  • Pain in the nipples
  • Scaling or redness developing on the nipple or skin covering the breast
  • Swelling of the breasts

Gynecology

Gynecology focuses on the reproductive system health and related conditions, such as incontinence or gynecologic cancer. Our gynecology unit is staffed with specially trained gynecologists and obstetrician-gynecologists (OB/GYNs) who provide care for overall female health.

Our gynecologists and OB/GYNs offer a wide range of services to help maintain and restore your gynecologic health. They work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that meets your needs and helps you feel secure.

Gynecologic surgery

If surgical care is necessary to treat your gynecologic condition, our medical team provides patient-focused care every step of the way. We also use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible.

Minimally invasive surgery requires minimal incisions, which means you experience a faster recovery, shorter hospital stay and less scarring.
