HCA Florida Englewood Hospital celebrated the official ribbon-cutting and opening of its new $1 million state-of-the-art helipad during National EMS Week, honoring the hospital’s longstanding partnership with first responders and emergency transport teams who provide lifesaving care on the ground and in the air.

Now fully operational, the new helipad enhances emergency access across the growing Southwest Florida region and strengthens the hospital’s ability to rapidly transport critically ill and injured patients when every second matters.

Designed to prioritize speed, all-weather reliability and enhanced safety for patients and flight crews, the helipad represents another major investment in emergency care infrastructure at HCA Florida Englewood Hospital.

“HCA Florida Englewood Hospital has a proud tradition of delivering high-quality emergency care for our community,” said CEO Kelly Lindsay. “The opening of this helipad reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring patients have rapid access to lifesaving care when every second matters. During EMS Week especially, we are proud to recognize the extraordinary collaboration between our hospital teams and first responders who work together every day to save lives.”

The helipad opening comes one year after the opening of the $32 million HCA Florida Wellen Park Emergency location and follows the hospital’s $10 million Emergency Department expansion completed in 2022 — investments designed to help the hospital stay ahead of the healthcare needs of the rapidly growing community and surrounding region.

Located on the north side of the hospital, the 2,025-square-foot helipad is 18 inches thick and includes direct access to a dedicated emergency department entrance, allowing for efficient patient transport during critical, lifesaving situations.

Helipad highlights include:

  • All-weather operational capabilities with remote-controlled LED lighting, advanced obstruction lighting and precision approach path indicators for enhanced pilot guidance
  • Reflective landing area markings for enhanced nighttime and low-visibility operations, including infrared night vision use
  • Enhanced safety features including an anti-skid landing surface and a fire suppression mitigation spray system
  • High-capacity structural engineering designed to support modern medical aircraft and long-term durability with minimal maintenance
  • Compliance with Federal Aviation Administration heliport design standards for advanced emergency aviation operations
  • Elevated design positioned three feet higher than the previous helipad for improved operational performance, visibility and flood mitigation during severe weather events
