Nursing units recognized for excellence at HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital
Tampa, FL — HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital is pleased to announce their Behavioral Health Unit A and Surgical Services at HCA Florida West Tampa Hospital and the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery recently received the 2025 HCA Healthcare Unit of Distinction Honorable Mention recognition. The Unit of Distinction Awards are an essential component of HCA Healthcare’s nursing program, built on four pillars: a care-first culture, clinical education, dynamic care teams, and leadership and advocacy. Over the past decade, HCA Healthcare has recognized more than 625 nursing units and more than 500 honorable mention units, demonstrating consistent nursing excellence at the bedside across a wide range of patient care environments.
“Nursing excellence is most visible at the bedside, where our nurses deliver compassionate, high-quality care to patients and their families every day. The Unit of Distinction program recognizes top-performing nursing units at HCA Healthcare that exemplify this commitment and set a strong standard for care across our organization,” said Erica Rossitto, senior vice President and chief nurse executive of HCA Healthcare.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our teams,” said Shannon Vanek, Chief Nursing Officer at South Tampa Hospital. “These recognitions reflect the exceptional care, collaboration, and compassion our nurses show every day. Their dedication to excellence continues to inspire us all.”
A total of 193 nursing units were recognized for 2025 performance during a ceremony broadcast from HCA Healthcare’s headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee on April 14, 2026. Units are selected based on measurable performances across key areas such as advocacy and leadership, consistency in nursing practice and operations, and the ability to leverage scale to improve patient care.
