New Board of Trustees members welcomed at HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital

HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital has appointed three esteemed community leaders — Dr. Tim P. Carlson, Elliott Wiser, and Maritza Nieves Iacono — to its Board of Trustees, reinforcing its commitment to excellence and community engagement.

St. Petersburg, FL — HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital is proud to announce the appointment of three distinguished leaders to its Board of Trustees: Tim P. Carlson, MD, Elliott Wiser and Maritza Nieves Iacono. Each leader brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to serving the Tampa Bay community.

Tim P. Carlson, MD, FAAFP

Dr. Carlson is a respected Family Practice physician with a longstanding dedication to St. Petersburg and surrounding communities. He is highly regarded for his compassionate patient care and strong support of medical education. He earned his Bachelor of S. from Butler University and pursued postgraduate studies in neuroanatomy at the University of Florida. He has served the community not only as a clinician but also as a lecturer and mentor, shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Elliott Wiser

With nearly four decades in the media industry, Elliott Wiser is a leader known for transforming local news coverage in Tampa Bay. He founded Bay News 9 in 1997, pioneering 24-hour local news and weather programming, including innovations like “Weather on the 9’s” and “Klystron 9.” His leadership extended to launching Bay News 9 en Español and Bright House Sports Network, Florida’s first 24-hour local sports channel.

Wiser’s career includes executive roles at Bright House Networks and Time Warner Cable, overseeing operations across 12 regional news channels. Locally, he has served on numerous boards including HCA’s Pasadena Hospital, the Florida Holocaust Museum and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. He currently teaches journalism at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg and produces globally recognized podcasts.

Maritza Nieves Iacono

Maritza Nieves Iacono is a seasoned business executive with nearly 30 years of experience in finance, regulatory strategy and business planning. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of South Florida and a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University. She is currently serving as Vice President of Business Planning and Execution for Duke Energy Florida and the Midwest and has led multimillion-dollar budgets and strategic initiatives across the energy sector.

She serves on the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Tampa Bay board and has been active in various service organizations, including the Junior League of Tampa, Hispanic Professional Women’s Association, St. Lawrence Catholic School and USF Women in Leadership & Philanthropy. She is also a 2022 graduate of Leadership Tampa Bay.
