Neurological care: Diane's story
HCA Florida Healthcare is a pioneer in an innovative surgical technique for people with malignant brain tumors. Unlike the past, this new technique allows the patient to remain awake during surgery.
As Dr. Jacob Freeman, a neurosurgeon at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital explains, "awake" brain surgery allows surgeons to receive real-time feedback from the patient about his or her neurological functions, as this procedure happens.
The procedure is also painless, and in most cases, the patient goes home with 24 hours of the operation.
"I was awake. I knew everything that was going on," says Diane Bodie-Hutchinson, who underwent this surgical procedure. "Believe it or not, it didn't hurt. I was very, very relieved."
"They did a very good job. I was impressed," Diane adds. "They knew what they were doing."
