Types of radiation therapy we offer
As part of our commitment to providing you with excellence in cancer care, we offer a wide range of radiation services that meet your needs and offer you safe treatment options.
Computerized tomography (CT) simulation
Our CT system provides the detailed image quality needed for highly focused conformal radiation therapy. It is equipped with 4D imaging capabilities to precisely measure the movement of tumors and normal tissues when you are breathing.
Helical tomotherapy
We are the fifth cancer center in the U.S. to have a linear accelerator system which delivers helical tomotherapy. This provides the continuous delivery of radiotherapy while rotating 360 degrees. Helical tomotherapy provides a faster delivery of therapy and treatment for diseases that are larger in size or scattered in location.
Radiopharmaceuticals
We were the first facility in Tallahassee to offer injectable radioactive medication to treat prostate cancer that has spread to bone and is resistant to other treatments. This treatment not only improves cancer-related symptoms, but it is also the first radioactive material shown to improve survival duration.
High-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy
HDR brachytherapy is an internal radiation therapy method that delivers a highly localized therapeutic dose of radiation directly to the tumor location. HDR brachytherapy involves a shortened treatment duration and is almost always performed on an outpatient basis. Because this therapy is extremely focused, the dose to surrounding organs and tissues is minimized, reducing potential side effects of treatment.
Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)
SRS is a highly focused treatment technique that uses precisely targeted radiation to treat small tumors. The therapy is delivered without incisions.
Adaptive radiation therapy (ART)
ART is a unique and specialized system we offer our patients to ensure their treatment is as effective as possible. ART includes a software that monitors variations in the size and location of your organs, normal tissues and tumors. For example, it can identify tumor shrinkage. This technology notifies your radiation team when treatment replanning may be needed based on these variables.
