Heart attack symptoms

Recognizing heart attack symptoms is an important aspect of our heart attack care. Some signs of a heart attack include:

  • Back, jaw or neck pain
  • Chest pain, pressure, tightness or an aching discomfort, lasting for more than a few minutes
  • Cold sweat
  • Dizziness, sudden lightheadedness or fainting
  • Fatigue
  • Heartburn, indigestion, nausea or abdominal pain
  • Irregular or racing heartbeat
  • Shortness of breath

If you believe you or someone else could be having a heart attack, call 911 immediately.

Early heart attack care (EHAC) program

In 1987, Dr. Raymond Bahr founded the EHAC program to spread the message that heart attacks have signs and symptoms that occur well before the attack. This program can help you recognize the symptoms before a major heart attack occurs and take action. The EHAC course is available entirely online.

Heart arrhythmia treatment

Our highly trained electrophysiologists treat various types of abnormal heart rhythm disorders, including arrhythmias.

To identify the source of the arrhythmia, our electrophysiologists perform electrophysiology (EP) studies in our dedicated EP laboratory. Once the origin of the arrhythmia is located, our team uses treatments, such as cardiac ablation or pacemaker implantation, to restore a normal heart rhythm.

Heart and vascular surgery

When noninvasive treatments cannot improve heart conditions or their symptoms, our cardiologists may recommend heart and vascular surgery. Our cardiovascular surgeons perform a range of surgeries to help you regain your optimal heart health.

Interventional cardiology treatments

Interventional cardiology is a branch of cardiology focusing on blood flow through arteries in the heart and throughout the body. Our interventional cardiology treatments and procedures use thin, flexible tubes called catheters to repair narrowed arteries and weakened or damaged blood vessels.

Some of these procedures include:

  • Coronary atherectomy
  • Coronary intervention (stent and balloon)
  • Peripheral angiography and intervention
  • Left ventricular support

Cardiac rehabilitation

After you undergo a surgical procedure or experience a medical heart event, our inpatient cardiac rehabilitation program can help you work toward your recovery goals.

As part of this program, our highly qualified rehabilitation specialists will:

  • Monitor your heart
  • Create customized rehabilitation plans
  • Educate you about heart health topics to help you make more informed lifestyle choices to reduce heart and vascular disease

About our cardiac program

Our experienced team members and national accreditations are just a few things that sets our hospital apart.

Experienced cardiac care team

Our primary team is comprised of committed cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiovascular anesthesiologists and critical care physicians. They collaborate closely with respiratory therapists, rehabilitation and occupational therapists, dietitians and social workers to create an individual care plan for you.

Nationally accredited cardiovascular care

Our hospital is an Accredited Chest Pain Center. This notable distinction from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) shows we offer fast, specialized emergency heart care that makes a critical difference when minutes count.

In fact, our door-to-balloon times are better than the national standards for treatment times. Additionally, we hold a four-star rating — the highest possible rating — from the ACC's National Cardiovascular Data Registry, further demonstrating our dedication to providing quality cardiovascular care.

For cardiothoracic surgery, we have earned a distinguished three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for our care and outcomes in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). This rating, which denotes the highest category of quality, places our hospital among the elite for heart bypass surgery in the United States and Canada.

Advanced cardiac care recognition

Our hospital is recognized among the nation's top cardiovascular hospitals. Based on objective, quantitative analysis, we pursue higher performance and deliver added value through inpatient survival rates, fewer complications, lower readmission rates and up to nearly $10,000 in cost savings per case.
