Electrophysiology (EP) services

EP studies can be used to both diagnose and treat issues of the heart's electrical system. When your heart's electrical system is not functioning correctly, your heart rhythm becomes irregular. These abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), can lead to fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath and heart attacks. In our EP department, we can determine the source of these symptoms and perform procedures to resolve some arrhythmias.

Cardiac catheterization

In our cardiac catheterization laboratory (cath lab), our heart specialists open narrowed or blocked arteries to restore normal blood flow. During these procedures, a physician will insert a catheter (thin, flexible tube) through a blood vessel using live X-rays (fluoroscopy) as a guide.

Our cardiac catheterization procedures include:

Balloon valvuloplasty: opens malfunctioning heart valves using a tiny balloon
Coronary atherectomy: removes plaque from vessel walls
Intravascular ultrasound: produces images of vessel walls using high-frequency sound waves
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI): treats narrowing (stenosis) of the coronary arteries, either with or without a stent
