Imaging services

Imaging exams allow radiologists (imaging specialists) and physicians to view structures and activity within the body. This is vital for diagnosis but also for treatment, to ensure your care plan is working as it should.

Conditions we diagnose through imaging

Radiology and diagnostic imaging help us screen, diagnose and treat many medical conditions, including:

  • Brain diseases
  • Broken bones
  • Cancer
  • Chest pain
  • Gallstones
  • Heart conditions
  • Internal bleeding
  • Osteoporosis
  • Thyroid disease
  • Vascular conditions

Our diagnostic imaging and radiology procedures

Our skilled radiology technicians may use any of the following procedures to obtain images with pinpoint accuracy.

Brain imaging

We use electroencephalograms (EEGs) to measure the electrical activity of the brain. To perform an EEG, electrodes are placed on your scalp. The results can help us diagnose and understand things like seizures and sleep disorders.

Breast health imaging

Our physicians support your overall breast health by using a variety of technologies to guide breast biopsies to check for cancer. These guided biopsies enable us to precisely locate and target the cells for biopsy.

Our breast biopsy techniques include:

  • Mammogram
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Stereotactic
  • Ultrasound

Cardiac catheterization

Our cardiology department offers a wide range of diagnostic procedures. Specifically, our cardiac catheterization laboratory provides images of the heart's vessels to help our radiologists and physicians diagnose and treat heart disease.

We also use electrocardiograms (ECGs or EKGs), which use electrodes to record and measure electrical activity of the heart.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and angiography (MRA)

The following medical imaging modalities use a magnetic field and radio waves to produce images of the body:

  • MRI — this method produces images of any part of the body and is primarily used for the abdomen, brain, chest, heart and spine
  • MRA — this method produces 3D images of blood vessels using MRI and special contrast agents (dye in the bloodstream)

We offer a "wide bore" MRI machine. Benefits of this technology include:

  • A larger opening, providing more comfort for claustrophobic patients
  • Reduced "knocking" sound to help you be less anxious during the exam
  • Shortened scan times
  • Shorter tube length so your head can stay outside the machine for many exams

Nuclear medicine

Nuclear medicine uses tiny amounts of radioactive tracer material and a gamma camera to produce images of the body. We perform nuclear imaging scans on the:

  • Bones
  • Breasts
  • Gallbladder
  • Heart
  • Thyroid

Ultrasound

These imaging methods, called sonograms, use sound waves to produce images of the body:

  • Echocardiogram (echo) — This is a test that evaluates the valves and chambers of the heart.
  • Ultrasound (3D and 4D) — This is a test that produces images of organs, tissues or blood vessels to detect disease, injury or other problems. Ultrasound is also used during pregnancy to evaluate the health and development of the fetus.

X-ray

These are some imaging techniques that use X-ray technology to produce images of the inside of the body:

  • Angiography — examines blood vessels to detect blockages, damage and other abnormalities
  • Bone mineral density (BMD) — measures bone health using the density of calcium and other minerals in bone
  • Computerized tomography (CT) — produces cross-sectional, detailed images of internal organs
  • CT angiography (CTA) — produces detailed images of blood vessels
  • Digital mammography — examines breast tissue for signs of cancer using high-resolution, digital images for accuracy
  • Digital X-ray — examines bones and some soft tissues, such as lungs, intestines and some organs, for disease or injury
  • Fluoroscopy — specialty X-ray technique that produces real-time, moving images to view the flow of contrast agents or position orthopedic implants, stents or other devices
