When Genevieve found out she would be delivering her third child at a new hospital, she admits she was a little nervous. Her obstetrician’s office moved all their deliveries to HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital in August 2025, citing numerous benefits for patients, including 24/7 access to dedicated OB anesthesia, 24/7 midwifery care, lactation services and more. Despite initial reservations, Genevieve found comfort in what others shared in online reviews: “I started doing some research on the hospital, and heard really, really amazing things... and honestly, it was the most remarkable experience.”

From the moment she arrived, Genevieve felt supported. “Every single person went above and beyond,” she said. The care team’s responsiveness to her birth plan also stood out: “They told me early on, ‘We want to make sure that you get everything that you need, everything that you want.’” Genevieve said she felt heard and respected throughout her stay. “The team, from start to finish, were all about doing everything they could to support me.” She recalled how a nurse in the delivery room made sure she was comfortable and cared for: “She was always making sure I had what I needed, at all times, and that was impressive.”

One of the most memorable parts of Genevieve’s experience came after her daughter Zaia was born via a “gentle C-section,” a process that allows the mother greater visibility and involvement in the delivery process, including skin-to-skin bonding immediately after birth. “After Zaia was delivered, my husband was able to sit with me and with the baby for an extended period. I've never experienced that before,” she said. Genevieve said that quiet time together meant the world to her. “It was really a great experience.”

Having undergone two previous C-sections, Genevieve was no stranger to the process. But this time, everything felt different — in the best way. “My recovery was really good, everything in general was just so much better,” she said.

One of Genevieve’s initial concerns was access to Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU), since her previous babies required specialized care after delivery. St. Lucie Hospital’s team of certified neonatal nurse practitioners put her at ease. “They showed me how they were ready to respond to any emergency to make sure we were safe,” she said. While St. Lucie Hospital is building its own NICU, scheduled to open in late 2025, the team works closely with the staff of their sister facility, HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, which is home to a Level III NICU.

Fortunately, baby Zaia didn’t need NICU care, but knowing the resources were available gave Genevieve peace of mind. “The nurses did a really good job of educating us along the way and helped me feel safe and know that we all would be safe while we were there.”

Reflecting on her birth journey, Genevieve said it best: “I’m so glad to be able to look back with such positivity. I said to my husband at every step, ‘Wow, this is amazing.’ I was nervous before, but the care and the hospital staff made this birth very special.” Genevieve’s story is a testament to the power of compassionate care, thoughtful communication and a team that truly listens.
