Cardiopulmonary care

Our cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary physicians collaborate to treat conditions that affect both cardiac and respiratory health. This type of multidisciplinary care is essential because it ensures comprehensive care and support for cardiopulmonary diseases.

We use advanced techniques and technology to perform a range of cardiopulmonary procedures, including diagnostic exams and complex surgeries.

Emergency heart attack care

Our hospital's emergency department team is prepared 24/7 to diagnose and treat patients with heart attack symptoms. Symptoms may come and go until finally becoming constant and severe. Common heart attack symptoms include:

  • Anxiety
  • Back pain
  • Chest pressure, squeezing or discomfort
  • Fatigue
  • Feeling of fullness
  • Jaw pain
  • Nausea
  • Pain that travels down one or both arms
  • Shortness of breath

Please note that you may not experience every symptom above. If you think someone is having a heart attack, call 911 immediately.

Cardiac diagnostics and imaging

We use specialized tools to screen for and diagnose cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary conditions. Some of these advanced diagnostics include:

  • Cardiac stress testing
  • Echocardiography, including transthoracic and transesophageal
  • Electrocardiography (EKG)
  • Holter monitoring
  • Methacholine challenge testing
  • Oxygen evaluation
  • Plethysmography
  • Pulmonary function testing (PFT)
  • Tilt table testing
  • Transthoracic ultrasound
Cardiac stress test

A cardiac stress test is an EKG performed during exercise. This test is used to determine how your heart responds to physical stress.

Echocardiography

Echocardiography involves noninvasive diagnostic testing of your heart and its functionality. This test helps physicians diagnose and determine the severity of various cardiac diseases.

EKG

An EKG is a safe and painless test that records electrical impulses of the heart. Your doctor may recommend an EKG for various reasons, including chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness and an irregular heartbeat.

PFT

A PFT measures the health of the lungs and enables us to detect changes in respiratory function. Many causes of pulmonary conditions can be successfully treated when detected early.

Cardiac treatments

Our team takes your cardiac care very seriously. We offer a full range of treatments and procedures, including:

  • Angioplasty
  • Atherectomy
  • Cardiac ablation
  • Cardiac catheterization, including coronary angiography and peripheral artery catheterization
  • Cardiac resynchronization therapy
  • Cardioversion
  • Cardioverter-defibrillator and pacemaker insertion, removal and repair
  • Electrophysiology
  • Heart failure management
  • Left atrial appendage device
  • Respiratory therapy
  • Stent placement
  • Traditional heart surgery
  • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
Cardiac catheterization

Our state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory (cath lab) uses minimally invasive techniques and advanced imaging to examine the heart and blood vessels. This allows our invasive cardiologists to diagnose and treat a variety of cardiovascular conditions. Procedures may include coronary angiography and peripheral artery catheterization.

Electrophysiology

Electrophysiology is the study of your heart’s electrical system. It is used to understand the electrical properties of the cells and tissues within the heart in order to diagnose and treat irregular heartbeats. During an electrophysiology study, a doctor will insert catheters through blood vessels that connect to the heart. These catheters are attached to small electrodes that can measure electrical activity.

Heart and vascular surgery

We strive to resolve your symptoms and treat your condition with the least invasive method of care possible. However, surgery is sometimes the most effective treatment option. If a cardiovascular surgery is necessary, we are with you and your family every step of the way. Our surgeons use both minimally invasive and traditional techniques. We also provide preoperative education to help you prepare for your surgery.

Interventional and structural cardiology

Our dedicated heart doctors perform minimally invasive, catheter-based procedures, such as TAVR, to treat heart conditions affecting the heart's structure, such as valve disease.

Cardiac rehabilitation

We offer a specialized rehabilitation program to help you manage cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary conditions or recover from surgery. This 12-week outpatient program aims to help you gain more endurance, strength and confidence. It also promotes heart-healthy lifestyles.

Additionally, we are proud to have this program certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. This certification is a reflection of our comprehensive approach to cardiac rehabilitative care.

Cardiovascular disease prevention

When you are aware of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease — and can identify any that apply to you — you can proactively manage your cardiovascular health.

Cardiovascular disease risk factors

Certain factors can put people at risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Talk with your doctor about your risk for cardiovascular disease if you have one or more of the following risk factors:

  • Family history of heart and vascular disease
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Personal history of diabetes
  • Personal history of smoking
  • Sedentary lifestyle

Cardiovascular health screenings

We offer free cardiac risk profile screenings by appointment on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 7:00am to 10:00am. These screenings involve blood testing, which requires fasting. For more information or to schedule a screening, call us at (800) 455-3392.
