Carolina Solano
Carolina Solano's family has a long history of cancer. She was always curious as to why the disease was so prevalent in her family.
During a visit for an annual mammogram, Carolina and her mother learned about the High Risk Women’s Program at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital. The program offers noninvasive genetic testing to women who are at a higher risk of cancer because of family circumstances.
"My family decided to get tested because they wanted to find out exactly what it is that causes cancer in my family. And now we know," says Carolina. "We wanted to have power to get all the tests that we need so that we could live a long, healthy life."
"I never imagined that in Ocala there would be these facilities or these testings," Carolina adds.
Dr. George Rossidis, a general surgeon at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital, notes that early detection of cancer helps saves lives. Through the High Risk Women’s Program, he adds, "We are now providing tools to eliminate the chance of having cancer or catching it at a very early stage."
